I'm really curious to hear what folks in other countries grow in their home flower and veggie gardens. We live in the Midwest, in the States, and here's what we'll have:
Loads of tulips, daffodils, crocus, hyacinths, and other bulbs my girls planted with me in the fall.
We'll plant zinnias, cosmos, morning glories, roses, along with butterfly bushes, stargazer lillies, daylillies, lilacs, mulberry bushes, and tons of other flowers.
Our veg garden will have loads of tomatoes, Indian corn (the girls love the colors), cucumbers, and some herbs. We have deer, rabbits, and bunnies, so lots of other veggies get nibbled down. :)
I was wondering what you all grow? How big are your yards? Ours is .78 acre which is 2,608 square meters . We usually start planting our spring gardens around Mother's Day in mid-May - is it the same for you?
Thanks so much! I can't wait to get the Spring Gardens going and have always wondered what gardeners in other countries plant.
Hello Irish Friends across the Great Blue! What do you plan on growing in your gardens this Spring?
I've already got tons of flowers out there, so I am doing some vegies this year.
Reply:I planted a bunch of Guinness cans this winter, so I cant wait to find out what I will get!

I didn't get any answers the first time I asked and still need computer tech help..please..pretty please?
could you help a non computer person with a problem..please..I was messing with my pictures for desktop.?
I went to view (arrange icons by name) and was changing a few names so I could organzie them into categories, %26amp; they would be grouped together (like flower-zinnias, flowers,-lilies, cartoons-popeye.,etc
The problem is now I notice some pictures have the wrong picture..For example, a picture of mickey mouse, a name of a flower, %26amp; a picture of a flower.
No idea what happened to mickey- the picture on the icon that when I set to desktop instead is a flower.
Mickey is there twice--once on the right desktop picture (after I click that option) %26amp; once on the wrong desktop picture when I click it shows a flower instead.
I tried copying %26amp; I get the right picture a%26amp; icon and desktop but when I try to rename it so it doesn't say copy (in order to group it with the other flowers..it let's me change the name, but also changes it back to mickey picture.
Hope that's understandable.I want them all to be right pictures, icons, and desktop but with no files that say the words copy of on em

This is hard to follow. By "pictures for desktop" I guess you mean desktop backgrounds, aka wallpaper. I don't know what you mean by icon, unless you mean the view options in the window where you keep the image files?
In any case, when copying, you can avoid "copy of" by right clicking the file and choosing Copy, then going to a place different from the place the file to be copied is located, and rightclicking a blank space there and choosing Paste. Renaming is easy enough.
So if your image files are in a folder, then take the files that have the wrong thumbnail image out of the folder and put them into another folder, by right clicking on them and choosing Cut, then rightclick on an empty space in the new folder and choose paste.
Then all your odd behaving image files will be together. Then restart your computer, to make Windows release whatever it is holding onto, if that is in fact the problem [it happens]. Then go back to the problem files and see what has happened, and if they are the same [wrong picture in the thumbnail view], then try this: go to My Computer, Local Disc C, rightclick that, choose Properties on the bottom, and when you get the dialog box, choose Tools, choose Check Now under Error checking, check the box that says automatically fix errors, and you will get a popup message that says you have to restart for this, so restart, and wait for the checkdisk to finish. When it finishes, Windows will start up and then go to the folder and see what has happened.
Don't forget that the desktop properties utility you get when you right click the desktop keeps a list of desktop backgrounds that have been used, and this renaming of files could have confused things there. You can set your desktop background just by double clicking an image file, like .jpg, and rightclicking the picture in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, and choosing Set as desktop background.

lol I do stuff like this all the time. I have a good friend in India who helps me when I screw up like this.
relax it can be fixed or it can be completely wiped away and start over. done that a lot of times.
Reply:your problem may be from any number of causes. i would recommend getting someone who knows computers to actually look at it. it may be something like you accidentally dragging it onto something else, or maybe the properties getting messed up, or even the original picture getting deleted.
that problem isnt something that you will be able to have us help you with here, as there are many questions that we would need to ask you about it. you're going to be needing to have a conversation, not just a single question and answer.

The Whipping by Robert Hayden? Help!?!?
Here is the poem:
The Whipping
The old woman across the way
is whipping the boy again
and shouting to the neighborhood
her goodness and his wrongs.
Wildly he crashes through elephant ears,
pleads in dusty zinnias,
while she in spite of crippling fat
pursues and corners him.
She strikes and strikes the shrilly circling
boy till the stick breaks
in her hand. His tears are rainy weather
to woundlike memories:
My head gripped in bony vise
of knees, the writhing struggle
to wrench free, the blows, the fear
worse than blows that hateful
Words could bring, the face that I
no longer knew or loved . . .
Well, it is over now, it is over,
and the boy sobs in his room,
And the woman leans muttering against
a tree, exhausted, purged--
avenged in part for lifelong hidings
she has had to bear.
What is the theme of this poem? What is the woman purged of at the end? Why does the speaker fail to mention what the boy has done wrong
The Whipping by Robert Hayden? Help!?!?
This has a lot of directions. Look beyond the words and get into the head of the woman....the homework is yours to do.

Maybe it will take it back the way it was and you can try again. only this time get the how to from the help section on the explorer task bar.
hope you get your zinnias away from under neath your popeyes. that could get real messy if Bluto shows up. yep.

Pie chart question?
Suppose a garden plot contains 5 zinnias, 10 irises, 11 marigolds, 15 hollyhocks, and 23 lilies. If you
were to make a pie chart of the flowers in the plot, What would be the central angle for each?
(Example, 38 degrees-Hollyhocks, 76 degrees-Lilies and so on..)
Pie chart question?
The total number of flowers is
5 + 10 + 11 + 15 + 23 = 64
The angle at the centre which represents 1 flower is 360/64 =
5.625 degrees.
I hope you can take it from there...
Reply:You have:

The total number of flowers is 5+10 +11+15+23=64
The angle at the centre which represents 1 flower is 360/64 or 5.625 degrees
5 zinnias --%26gt; 5*360/64 or 5*5.625 degrees

Why are my potted plants wilting?
I have some potted plants (2 patio tomato plants, 2 strawberry plants and a potted zinnia) on my patio ledge where they have plenty of direct sunlight. I can't figure out why they are wilting! I believe the strawberry/tomato plants may just need to have a bigger pot and bought some bigger ones today. If I don't put them on the ledge, there isn't a lot of sunlight. If anyone has any suggestions or can tell me what I'm doing wrong please let me know. I'm still new to this gardening thing! Thanks for your help!
Why are my potted plants wilting?
because your not giving them soy sauce
Reply:The patio tomatoes will need at least 10" pot per plant
A larger pot 12-14" will give you more fruit.
use a good quality soil
(such as miracle grow with moisture additive)
temperatures need to be above 45 at night for zinnias ,
if the pots are clay, soak thoroughly
if plants are kept too wet they will also wilt
so be sure the soil is actually dry when you water
and all containers need to have drainage holes.
Reply:its your soil...give them good soil and holes in the bottom of the container then water everyday they will grow just fine...dont forget to fertilize.
Reply:Use five gallon buckets for pots, drive several holes in the bottom, put some gravel in the bottom where the holes are, and then fill the bucket to about three inches with good loose loam then watter frequently. You will be hard pressed to have a crop failure this way.

Many plant/flower questions! please help!?
The plant seed packets should have all the information you need. It will show a map of the US and it is partitioned into planting zones. Find your zone on the map. The seed packtes tell you when to plant, when they start coming up through the ground after you've planted them and when they bloom.

What are stripper names? And how do I avoid them?
What sort of names are seen as 'stripper-ish' or 'porny'?
I was recently told by a friend that one of the names I'm considering (Violet Dawn- two old family names) sounded like the name of a stripper. Now I'm worried that all of my name choices have a slightly sexually promiscuous vibe- which is something I *really* don't want. The names that are all in the running are: Katherine, Annaliese, Isadora, Lily, Elizabeth, Zinnia, Louisa, Adelaide, Violet, Elodie, Serena, Lucy, Genevieve and Evelyn. Do these names sound bad, or is it just that I paired Violet with a 'bad' middle name?
What are stripper names? And how do I avoid them?
Relax; its just that you've paired Violet with a 'bad' middle name. Violet Dawn sounds like a 'nature' name which in turn makes it sound like a stripper name. Both names are nice, but I'd pick one or the other. Isadora Violet, Elizabeth Dawn, or Violet Lucy would sound great.
And if you want to avoid stripper names, avoid made-up names like Nevaeh. You might also want to avoid trendy, empty names like Bailey, Brinlee, Kaylie, etc.
Reply:I dont think Violet Dawn sounds like a stripper name at all. Are you sure the person that told you that isnt just jealous? I also Love the names Lily Elizabeth Serena and Evelyn and With Evelyn you could call her Evie They are all so cute
Reply:Violet Dawn sounds more hippie than stripper (sorry, no offense meant by that, but you know what I mean? Names like Summer Rain and Crystal Snowflake), even though both are real girls' names.
I think it would sound better reversed: Dawn Violet
The thing is, Violet is a beautiful name, but also a dark, sultry color, so people might associate it with sexy, sultry women.
Reply:its the middle name that makes it sound stripper-like. all your names are adorable. just keep something simplier for the middle name.
Reply:Well in my opinion no it doesn't sound whorish. In fact a name is only whorish unless the person makes it that way. Besides a name is a name and either one you pick will be great. There will be more things to worry about when little Violet Dawn comes. Oh and yeah you did pair Violet with a bad middle name.
Reply:It was the combination you used. Try Katherine Violet or Lily Isadora, I just wouldn't use Dawn, Starr, Love, ones like that.
Reply:seperatley Violet and Dawn are fine names but should be used as a middle name i believe the best way to decide if a name is good is introduce them as a doctor so does Dr Violet Dawn (your last name) sound good? or not ? just consider it
Reply:the bad ones are isadora, zinnia, louisa, adelaide, serena and genevieve
Reply:when you call anyone one by two names it can sound like a stripper and another one sure way to tell is if it sounds like an animal or a car i.e. lexus, porche stuff like that.
Reply:Dawn seems kind of stripper to me... Violet sounds lovely if you pair it with something more classic though. I love how Violet Elizabeth and Violet Evelyn sound, personally :)
As a side, the ones that sound slightly "stripper" to me are Zinnia, Elodie and Serena.
Reply:Savanna Jade
Serenity Rose
Bianca Louise
Reply:I don't think any of your names sound like strippers. My sister's middle name is Dawn. I always thought it was very beautiful, reminds me of a sunset. Do what you want.
Serena Dawn or Elizabeth Dawn or Rachel Dawn
good luck!
Reply:I don't think Violet Dawn is too much of a stripper name, but it's basically a sunrise if you think about it which could lead to others thinking of it in a bad way, one that you didn't intend. I don't think any of your other names are "stripperish". But stay away from made up names. You have some pretty classic names, except for Zinnia. That is the only one I would say DO NOT USE. I really love Evelyn and Lily from your list.

Reply:Stripper names are like Candy, Star, Co Co, Rainbow, Rain, Capri, Sky etc
Reply:It is a bad pairing, neither name is stripperish on its own. Stuff like Misty Rose, Autumn Rain and Violet Dawn sound stripperish. Avoid jewel names like Diamond, Saphire, Jade and Amber. Avoid car names like Porsche, Mercedes and Lexus. Obviously you can run your suggestions through here. People will tell you really quickly if it sounds stripperish.

I really love Evelyn and Lily from your list.
http://www.babynames.com/namelist/938832...
Can anyone give me info on...................?
Phlox, Azaleas, and Daylily? I've narrowed my search down to these to plant at our new house, however I haven't had any experience with these. Last summer I had Zinnia's and they were very pretty but now they are ugly and bare and just look like a dead bush, I'm guessing because of the cold weather. Can anyone give me personal tips or their personal experiences with any of these flowers and how easy to care for they are or how they would do in a TX climate? Thanks in advance, and btw, I'm not really that great at taking care of plants..............I either overwater or underwater and I haven't had alot of planting experience.
Can anyone give me info on...................?
Phlox is a perennial ground cover that flowers (pink or white) in the spring for about 3-5 weeks. It will creep and spread all by itself and requires little to no maintenance with the exception of cutting it back when it gets to creeping places you don't want it. It is easily transplanted to other areas by digging up the roots and replanting.
Azaleas are a flowering bush with pretty pink, red or white flowers about the size of a fist. The leaves are a darker green and marquis shaped. They bloom in spring for about 3 weeks. Once the bloom has wilted, you can promote new growth by pinching it off. They love acidic soil but it's easiest to care for by feeding the special azalea food you can find in the garden store. They are slow growers but can get as tall as your house over the years... many years.
Daylilies are a common perennial bulb flower. They come in all sizes from the large 4 footers to the small 6 inchers. They have a trumpet shaped flower in orange/yellow or orange/red. They will bloom all summer long. The spent blooms can be snapped off to promote new growth but it's not required. In the cooler months, the day lily will wilt back to nothing and you can cut the dead leaves off about 2 inches from the ground. In the spring they will be back. When they get too large (maybe every 3 seasons) you can half the cluster by digging your shovel into the soil and removing half the bulbs. Very easy to do since they are only 4 inches under the soil and very tiny bulbs. You can then transplant those bulbs to another area or give them to a friend. They also make nice cut flowers for a vase.
I don't live in Texas and don't know if there are any requirements to water since you probably have less rain but all of these plants are very easy and self-sufficient. Just feed the azaleas to promote more blooms. And you are right that all these will look dead and gone in the cooler months. They'll be back!
Reply:chuck em out waste of time if not got green fingers.
Reply:Zinnia's are usually annuals meaning they only last for 1 season.. Daylily's are bulbs like tulips and are perennials meaning they come back every year. They usually only flower once then die off until next year. They are pretty easy to take care of. A good website is called Gardenweb and you can find pictures and info on almost all flowers. i can't be much more help since i'm in Canada and out seasons are very different..
Reply:Your best bet is to go to the library or bookstore and find a book on outdoor plants in your region.
Daylilies are easy to grow and don't need much water or care; they bloom in the summer and die back in the winter.
Azaleas are not difficult, but do require regular water and occasional pruning. Different varieties will bloom in different times of the year, and they may stay green all year round.
Phlox is a low creeping ground cover that flowers. Very pretty, low maintenance.
Reply:Well they are all perrinials and will come back every Spring. You don't really need to do much to keep them going other than making sure they don't dry to a crisp. You can put a little fertilizer on them after they flower. You don't want to fertilize before they bloom or you will create more green stems and less flowers. Your Azaleas you can just trim up when needed but again you don't want to do this until after it flowers. It will flower in the spring and stay green after that. Daylillies are just downright hearty. They pretty much can grow without any attention other than as I said before, don't let them dry out to crisp. When you get into the real hot summer make sure you water them if you're not getting rain. If you see them starting to droop just give them a good watering and they will be fine. Zinnia's are normally an annual but in a warmer climate they may come back. Just cut them back for now. If the root system hasn't died out it could come back. Or the flowers probably dropped seeds when they died and you could get some volunteers from that. If you ever need info on gardening you can get lots on HGTV.COM . If you have a chance watch Paul James on Gardening By The Yard on HGTV. He gives lots of good advice for people maintaining their home gardens. Good luck and don't be afraid of hurting your plants. They are generally pretty durable and were growing all by themselves long before gargeners even existed.
Reply:Zinnias are annuals, which means that they die at the end of the summer and don't come back. Perennials come back every year and those can save you a lot of trouble as well as money. All plants/flowers need to be adequately watered so there's no way to get around that. If you can find Impatiens, those are beautiful and last from late spring through the first frost (around November or so.) The lilies are usually good spring flowers but I don't think they last all summer . Your best bet is to speak to the salespeople at your gardening store and they can be your greatest guides.
Reply:I don't have much experience with phlox, but Azaleas and Daylillies are wonderful, low maintenance plants. Either should be an excellent choice.
Reply:for Texas:
azaleas-they will burn up in the heat, they won't like the alkaline soil.
Phlox- will only bloom in the spring and are very slow growing
Dayliliy- Stella D' Oro will rebloom during the summer. feed regularly and give water regularly.
Zinnias - they are annuals. this year try Profusion zinnias they are very heat tolerant and don't get powdery mildew, and they re seed.
ALSO TRY-
shrubs- hardy hibiscus, lantana, santolina, butterfly bush
annuals- vinca(heat tolerance is excellent), penta, cosmos.
perennials- gaillardia, cone flower, shasta daisy.
all the ones i listed are easy and can handle the heat and soil type you have.

How does one brace oneself while giving kittens up for adoption??
I fear I may sob, or atleast cry when giving away 3 cats tomorrow
:--(
A cat adopted us late spring this past yr. due to what seemed to be a chaotic and obviously atleast a neglectful environment. Her original home that is.
Hmmm, anyway she had her kittens right next to our home Labor Day. She had 4.
We fed them all throughout the summer and she filled out nicely and we all grew to really love one another. And we watched her kittens nurse, wean, grow up some, and frolick in my garden between the roses, zinnia's, and Indian corn.
Now w/the autumn leaves blowing in the wind, the weather is getting much colder. They have been living indoors now. However due to our small apt. and we've 2 cats already, were able to adopt one kitten. Anyway, found great homes for the rest and tomorrow is "The Day".
I will miss them terribly. [should I take a xanax b4 I knock on the adoptee's door?]
THis is stressful man.

you done a good job finding them homes off there own, where they can get love,as you can have your time with your cats.just take some nice picture of them together so you have got to look at

Good luck to you...your babies will be o.k. and you will feel better in time!

Many plant/flower questions! please help!?
morning glories will take a little over a month to bloom. start now so in early july they will be anice size for outside. also you may want to consider a moon vine which is a reletive to morning glories only very fragrant and will come back up in southern noth carolina. the pink moon vine is also a cold hardy relatinve of morning glories.
here is a photo of nasturtiums
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showima...
it doesnt gorw like a mornig glory because it is not a vine, but a ground cover. this is an annual in yor state.
yes your foxgloves will flower in time for summer. in colder climates they dont come up till june and flower by july so yours may be in flower by late may.
purple coneflowers as well as zinnias take about a month or so to bloom so it may not be until early or mid june before they are mature enough to go outside
your zone is a zone 8a if in southern north carolina and a zone 7b in northern or mid north carolina.
zone 8a has many plants such as medditeranean fan palms, cannas, moon vines, pink moon vines, pindo palms, clematis, hydraneas, dusty millers and lots lots more.
zone 7b is also a good planting zone. you can grow cannas, pink moon vines, hydraneas, windmill palms, mazari palms, needle palms, vincas, clematis, roses, cherrys and also lots more.
good luck
Reply:All plants started from seed take a month or so before they have blooms. You will have green plants, but the blooms will take a longer time. But it is worth it. Be sure to keep your new planted seeds moist. Touch the ground each morning to make sure it has not dried out. As the plants get taller with about two or three sets of leaves, you do not have to keep the soil moist each day, but don't let them dry out.
Next year, plant nursery shop "bedding" plants. These will be about 4", 6", 8", or taller and will bloom sooner for you.
You are gonna love gardening, don't try to do it all in one year. Get to know where the sun shines the most, and where the shaded areas are. Because you will need flowers for the sun areas, and flowers for the shaded areas.
Since you are a beginner, this year start your garden with plants that you get from a garden center or nursery. They are called bedding plants and come in a six pack. Look for a little tag sticking in the six pact showing directions on how to grow the plants. If the tag is not there, ask for one or buy something else. Directions are VERY important.
Seeds are not always easy to grow. And wildflowers are the hardest so don't be disappointed if they don't show up.
Two good things to do for yourself is to call your local County Extension Service and ask for all the information that they have about gardening in your area. They usually have a packet/kit of things for the home gardener.
And number two would be to pick up a couple of beginner books. You really do need to know about soil, compost, mulch and etc.
To keep from over watering or not watering enough, buy a water analyzer from a nursery or garden center. Be sure to read the directions. This will be one of your best tools.
Send for some free gardening catalogs and get use to the different types of plants, colors, and when to plant. They are filled with good informtion and pictures. And they will keep you company during the long winter months. Here is a list of just a very few. There are hundreds more:

Butterfly Flower Garden AND Weed Problem?
In the Spring I'm going to plant a seed mixture of Alcea rosea, Asclepias tuberose, Aster novae-angliae, Clarkia amoena, Cosmos bipinnatus, Delphinium consolida, Digitalis purpurea, Echinacea purpurea, lavatera trimestris, Malope trifida, Mirabilis jalapa, Monarda citriodora, Nicotiana affinis, Petalostemum purpureum, Phlox drummondii, Salvia coccinea, Trifolium incarnatum, Tropaeolum majus and Zinnia elegans.
Last Spring/Summer we had a huge weed problem we would spray weed killer and rip out weeds but they would keep coming back. We finally put down Weed Defense Fabric that lets air, water and nutrients through, not weeds. Then put mulch on top to hold down the fabric. I would like to start a butterfly garden and I'm worried if I cut the fabric that the weeds will grow through the openings. If I plant a butterfly garden I can't use a weed killer as it will harm the butterflys. Can anyone help?
Butterfly Flower Garden AND Weed Problem?
You can use the fabric, and put mulch on top of it. I prefer to use newspaper instead of the fabric, because the newspaper will breakdown and It helps the soil.
Reply:I am assuming you are going to propagate your seeds into plants first?? because you wont be able to cut lots of holes in the fabric to sow them, as that will defeat the object of the weed fabric.
If you cut a cross in the fabric, then plant your plant in the hole and fold the 4 corners back in, this should stop any annual weed seeds from blowing in.But unfortunately there may already be annual seeds in the soil from previous years (the old saying goes-one years seeds are 10 years weeds) and these weeds may find there way through the slits. If you have perennial weeds in there they may also find their way up if close to a slit. You will just have to pull or dig these out by hand.
If you want butterflies, you will get lots if you plant a buddleia shrub. Most grow into huge shrubs which will withstand hard pruning, but there are dwarf varieties. Lavender and thyme do the trick also.
Good luck with the butterflies.
Reply:Mulch mulch mulch. At least 3" if not 4". And keep weeding. Weeds will only grow if you allow them to.
Reply:Use plants, not seeds, even if it means growing them all in pots first. The more developed they are the better they will stand up to the weed competition! A seed doesn't stand a chance and a bulb isn't much better.
I wouldn't worry too much if you use plants. You'd only be cutting small holes to put them in and you can push the fabric and mulch back around them. A few weeds probably will get through but the fabric will still suppress most of them and you'll only have to weed just around your plants.
Good luck!
Reply:I gather you want a nice pleasant low maintanance garden, that attracts butterflies. I have to say that most weed suppresents's are ineffective, I've been in the horticultural business for 20 years, and my family a lot longer. If you cut the fabric weeds suppresent, boy are you inviting trouble. You don't say which area you're from, this would help all on web to give advice.
As to to the seed mixture , I'd be a little wary of Digitais purpurea, I presume you know foxgloves are poisionous, especially where children are concerned?

Flower combo for wedding?
What do you think of these flowers together for my wedding bouquet? My colors are hunter green, chocolate, and ivory:
White tulips, italian ruskus greenery, green zinnia, and a chocolate/black colored calla?
Zinnia:

Calla Lily

Italian ruskus:
http://www.mellano.com/cgi-bin/products....
Flower combo for wedding?
3 words immediately came to mind...beautiful, elegant...and unique! love it!
Reply:I love the colors!!
Reply:love it, love it, love it! Since the zinnia adds a lot of green to the combination, you might think about brightening it up a bit with some ivory/white flowers. Maybe orchids, gerbera daisy, or alstromeria. Another green to look at is hypercum...they're green stems with little green beeding.
I really do love those hybrid callas...so very pretty!
Reply:You've done an excellent job with your flower selection. I will be using dahlias %26amp; Italian ruskus as well mixed in with orchids.
Who doesn't love tulips? I used to have a ton of calla lilies when I had my garden and I grew zinnias from seed as one of my favorites, especially the green! All I can say, as far as flowers . . . flawless!
Reply:I think that is a lovely and unique combination. That calla lily is really awesome...
Reply:calla lily are for the white, pure etc...= ok!; ruscus ok!; zinnia ok... but it all depends on the drama of the arrangement... i like lilies...
Reply:I think it would look nice- and you could tie an ivory ribbon around to brighten it up a bit.
Alternatively, swap the brown calla lilies for white/ivory and tie with a chocolate ribbon.
Either would be beautiful!

Why did she give me a hug after wat she did too me???
Well my stupid friend zinnia was talking behind my back calling me a pig and all that sh!t.And i was like 4 ft away from her when when i heard her call me a pig and a *****.And she knew i was listing! So the next day she goes up and gives me a hug then started talking like nothing happened!!Then later on school she said im a stupid retarded a ss *****!I wanna get her back im gonna dump her as a friend got any ideas wat is should do??And dont say dont get her back or let it go and all that crap!!!!!
Why did she give me a hug after wat she did too me???
Dump her sorry as$ , she deserves whatever it is you're planning to do to her. Draw a fat pig and put it on her locker to show the world what she really is. Maybe she gave you that hug to prove she is superior and that whatever she did to you, it shouldn't matter to you because she has control of the friendship. By dumping her as a friend, she could really be shocked so go for it. Next time she speaks to you, ignore her and maybe get your friends in on it. If she trys giving you a hug, move away because that could really embaress her. Good Luck
Reply:Beat her *** down like a dog
Reply:First of all I don't know why you are referring to her as your friend. No friend would do that to you well at least no true friend. I would cuss her the he!! out. Maybe talk about her behind her back with in listening rage. There are lot of things you can do.Just think of the way that will truly hurt her. Once you come up with that way you will need something else because you may try to come back on you. Maybe bring her a toothbrush for her two-face something that will so that she is funny acting.

Females seem to always back stab, *****.
Some times your best friend can end up you worst nightmare.
Revenge is not the way to go,it rarely works and only makes you as bad as she is, dont do some of the stuff they have mentioned here(very immature) ignore her it will hit home more.
Reply:yes your both kids tell her that your hurt and if that dont work dont be her friend
Reply:6th grade? hahaha i think u should just leave her alone, dont even bother with her anymore, and ppl ask why tell them, but if it gets out of hand kick her a**,lol ur young, so beat her up jk
Reply:It isn't worth getting seriously mad over. I agree she isn't a really good friend and you need to calm down and tell her to stop and hang out with people that aren't so rude to you. Whatever you do don't get revenge! You will end in trouble and the situation will get even worse. Tell Zinnia nicely how you feel and try not to make a big deal out of the whole thing. I just been through sixth grade and let me tell you one thing about it: the less fights the better. So keep your cool and everything will be alright.
And one other thing being a pig isn't all that bad. Pigs are cool!

Does seeing color on zinnias leaves and stem mean the flowers will bloom soon?
I am growing zinnias and they are growing great. I have grown them from seeds and about two months now. I started them around march 15 and I just noticed that two of the many I have has color on the stem and a little bit on the underside of the leaves its starting to get a pinkish color. Does that mean flowers will bloom soon?and if so how soon will they bloom.this is my first time growing these and would like an estimate on when the flowers will bloom.thanks!!
Does seeing color on zinnias leaves and stem mean the flowers will bloom soon?
they usually flower from the start of July and can still flower if looked after well until mid October (also depending on the weather)

How to maintain indoor plants and tips to maintain zinnias and jerberaas?
Different plants require different treatment, of course, but as a general rule of thumb, keeping most plants moist, and with a good deal of light and providing moderate but regular fertilizer will keep them happy. Zinnias are very tough and hardy plants; be sure to remove spent/dead flowers after they've bloomed, so the plant will continue to send out buds. Gerberas (I hope that's what you had in mind?) generally do well in conditions very similar to Zinnias - be aware that both plants have some problems with fungus from time to time, so a good systemic fungicide can be very helpful.
How to maintain indoor plants and tips to maintain zinnias and jerberaas?
One thing I know is that you shoud not over water them.
Giving too much water is as harmful as giving little water.
Reply:Provide proper amount of sunlight to your indoor plants. Most houseplants will not grow well in direct sunlight. Those that do should not be placed too close to a window as the glass will magnify the light and possibly burn the leaves. Keep your plants moist but not soggy. Know your plants and refer to the small care tags that came with the plants. The care tag usually have light and water requirements, temperatures that the plant can tolerate and when to fertilize.
Zinnias and Gerbera daisies are outdoor plants. They require direct sunlight or some shade. During the summer months, water regularly and clip the spent flowers and leaves to encourage more blooms to come out.

And ya better hope any girl you name after a mythological god is good looking. Lord help us if you name a girl Aphrodite and she's ugly as sin.
Reply:Zen is a very unique boys name (I do happen to like it)..the only person I know name Zen is actor Cory Feldman's son is named Zen Scott...I like the name Saffron for a girl....be careful the name you pick cause the poor kid is going to have to live with it for the rest of his/hers life (Do you what the kid made fun of or beat up every day on the playground cause kids can be cruel). Why not pick something that's traditional, yet unique like Mallory or Laine?
Reply:Zen sounds too feminine for me. Don't like Xavier, but how about Xander (as in Alexander). Could also work for a girl - be pronounced similar to Sandra, or even shorter - Xan (Zan).

PLZ I need help wiith my scoence fair project!!?
i am doing a science fair project that is due monday. I did which brand of potting soil make plants grow the best. i tested 3 different brands of potting soil and i grew zinnias. they were all watered the same and received the same amount of sunlight. i need to know what my control is. Can any one help??
PLZ I need help wiith my scoence fair project!!?
Pick one zinnia and make it the control. Come up with a justification for picking that soil. Try looking at the ingredient lists and see if any of them have special ingredients; make those the experimental ones and the other one the control. This makes the project more about which specific ingredients make plants grow the best.
The best control would probably have been to grow one plant in normal dirt, but it's obviously too late for that. This kind of project doesn't easily lend itself to a control sample; an easier project would have been to grow them all in the same dirt, but give supplements to some of them. The one that didn't get any supplements would be the control.

Flower or weeds?
so i planted some flower seeds in my front yard, zinnia, snapdragon, moonflower, and a california poppy, all at the same time its been two week now, and im curious, how do i know which is the flower and which is the weeds??
Flower or weeds?
Let them grow up together for a little while until you can tell what is a definite weed and what is a definite little flower. If you pull the weeds (or what you think are weeds) up now you could inadvertently pull up flowers and even disturbing the soil around young seedlings can disturb their roots and kill them off. Just like the parable of the wheat and the chaff in Matthew 13:24-30. :)
Reply:Here's a great site for you to go to that has photos of the seedlings of manual plants.
Also don't be scared by the words
monocots means one vein direction like a grass plant or palm tree
dicot means viens that go in mutiple directions like a tree branch.
California poppies have leaves that look like silver ferns and are a bluish green color.
If you see a plant in the yard else where and not in your garden it's a weed. Also weeds grow faster than flower seeds in general.
Reply:On the back of the seed packets there should be a diagram of the seedlings leaf pattern and a days to germination time frame. Use these to guide you as they are spot on for me .
Reply:All a weed is is a plant out of place. If you like it, call it a flower. :-)
Reply:Well, not one of your seeds will be over one inch tall yet, so pick everything that is taller than that!

A control is one you didn't do anything fancy with. For example, if you water each one with different things, the one watered with plan water would be your control. Did you do one with plain dirt? Thta'd be the control .

Gardening HELP~~?
I planted some zinnia seeds over a month ago and nothing has happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also planted some calla lily bulbs about 6 weeks ago and nothing has happening with those either.
Nothing is coming up!!!!
Gardening HELP~~?
Where do you live? Zinnias are one of the fastest germinating flowers I know of....usually just 4-5 days if it is warm enough, say above 65 degrees consistently. They should be covered with just a little bit of soil(1/4"). Calla lillies will take awhile, again depending on the temps. You could try carefully digging one up and see what it is doing. If it has rotted, it will be brown and mushy. If it is still firm and not showing any signs of growth, I would guess that it is just too cold still.
Reply:If you're in a cooler climate you need to start the seeds indoors, once in warm, moist soil it should take about 2 weeks for them to sprout. They can be started outdoors, but after the last frost date when the soil has warmed. Be sure to keep them moist in well drained soil, proper spacing will help prevent mildew. Spacing depends upon size with miniature varieties spaced four to six inches apart, and Giant varieties one to two feet apart.
I'm guessing you planted colored calla lilies, which are called tubers because they have shoots on the top and round bottoms. Plant calla lily tubers 2” deep with the developing shoots pointed upward. Calla lily bulbs require a loose, well-draining soil. In cooler, milder climates, callas perform with greater growth and vigor in full sun. Full sun also encourages brighter and richer calla lily bloom color. In warmer climates, though, they should be planted in partial shade to avoid excessive soil temperatures.
Mulching your soil will also aid in controlling soil temperature and aid in stress management of the calla lily plant. Calla lilies need a moist soil medium. It is important that soil never completely dries out, nor is water sodden.
Your calla lily tubers should begin flowering 60-90 days post planting.
Reply:It depends on where you live. Calla Lilies are a very warm climate plant and if it gets into the 30's or so you may have lost those. I live in the Indiana and the average last frost here (zone 5-6) is April 15th. It all depends on where you live. If you have waited until the last frost has occured for your area you should be ok.
Reply:What zone are you in? In regard to your bulb question, did you plant at least 4" down. Have you had a frost since then? Bulbs need to planted after the danger of a frost passes. Seeds will not sow immediately after you sow them in a colder zone.
Reply:Are you watering them? My calla lilies are growing right now, and zinnias are just seedlings. You may have planted the bulbs upside down.
Reply:Sounds like the soil has been too cold. You might try testing some your seeds by wrapping them in a moist paper towel, putting them in a plastic bag and leaving in a warm place. Should sprout in a week.
Reply:You didn't say where you live, but it is too cold for most seeds and spring planting of bulbs. The bulbs will probably appear as the ground warms up. But you might have to re-plant the zinnia seeds. Be sure to read the back of the zinnia packet. It tells you when and how to plant in your zone (section of the country).
Here in West Texas, we don't plant seeds until the night temperatures get into a steady 68 to 70 degrees.
Most people in the USA don't plant until after May 1st.

and when i cut....will they grow back bushier or still high and tall....
Zinnias question?
Depends on how long you want them for the vase. For a smaller vase just cut them a bit shorter, for a longer vase, cut them as long as you want.
If you take off all the leaves except for the couple up nearest to the flower they will last a bit longer and stop the water going bad.
Once you have taken the first crop of longer stemmed flowers from a zinnia plant, others will grow from the side shoots of the plant, and may be a little shorter stemmed. Plant will be a bit more bushy.
Reply:Zinnias should be pruned from the bottom of the stem that the flower is on. It will make the plant more bushy as you harvest the flowers. Make sure never to water your zinnias on their leaves. This causes a disease on the leaves. Just water their lil feet.

What is this plant?
Anyone know a good website, or know how to ID this plant? We planted zinnia from bulk seed, and two are growing much taller than the others. It is the same color (green). The leaves feel like zinnia (fuzzy), but the plants are now 3-4 feet high, whereas the others are about 6 inches. The buds kept turning into more leaves! Now there are buds on top and on the sides in some spots. Is this a weird zinnia, or did something get mixed in with them?
What is this plant?
If it looks the same except just having more buds, and the size of course, it might be a hybrid of two closely related zinnia (sub)species. Hybrids can perform higher performance in many traits, as plant hight, fertility, leave numbers and so on. This is called heterosis or hybrid vigor and common for plenty of plants, including crops.
But on the other hand, it might indeed be some thing else in this bulk mixture, may be you have to wait until they flower.
Reply:Do you have a picture? It sounds like some sunflower seed may have gotten into the zinnia seed, but you won't know until the plants bloom.

What is a frequency chart?
How would i make one for my science experiment dealing with the height of Zinnia flowers if one uses liquid fertilizer and the other doesn't?
What is a frequency chart?
A frequency chart is literally counting how many of something.
You can do this in groups eg for your height one, you would have a series of height ranges eg
0-5mm
5-10mm
11-15mm
16-20mm
etc whatever ranges you want. All you do is number off (doing it in the 4 vertical lines crossed by the 5th horizontal one) in each group.
This way you can draw a (histogram)graph using the results and see which plants occured most frequently at each height and its easier to see patterns.
You would have to compare the 2 different groups as well, again using graphs to show your frequency chart result (ie its easier to see patterns and its easier to talk about in your results eg. the plants in Zinnia produced overall taller plants and had less in the 0-20mm, while those without fert had more shorter plants, 26 at 20mm or less compared to only 9 with fertiliser ....thats just made up but you get my drift.

How can i cross-breed zinnias?
do they reproduce asexually? how can i cross-breed zinnias that are the same everything except for color? (where are it's anthers if there are ne and how do i remove them?)
it'd be great if someone could give me a website w/ diagrams
(i'm a visual sort of person)
How can i cross-breed zinnias?
You can pollinate the zennia by hand by transplanting the pollen of one plant to another plant.

Cutting Zinias?
I am growing zinnias in pots and they look great so far. Is it possible to cut them in a way that whats left in the pot will regrow more flowers. I would love to cut some of them for vases in my house, just have no idea how/when/where to cut the stem.
Cutting Zinias?
I've found that Zinnias, being annuals, don't re-bloom well. But the sow very easily. I always throw a bunch in my garden every year.
Enjoy them in the pots, or move the pots temporarily inside for a show.
If you like the idea of continual flowers, and lots of flowers for your vases as well - try black-eyed susans. They are perennial. So the patch gets bigger every year. And they bloom from summer all the way through until frost kills them. I can cut and cut and cut the flowers, and the patch just gets more profouse.
Reply:I cut my zinnias where the stem of the flower connects to the next set of leaves. You'll see a tiny set of leaves beginning to form in the crook of the stem. That's the next set of leaves. If that leaves you w/a flower w/too short of a stem, you can take the next set down. Cut off any leaves that would be in the water of your vase to keep the water clean %26amp; make the arrangement last longer.. It depends on the variety of zinnia you have. I always plant "State Fair"--they have nice long stems. Whatever kind you cut, make sure you check the vase once a day for water level--zinnias drink alot!

Big Red Zinnias?
I did a science project concerning different types of fertilizers and their effects on potted Big Red zinnias. I have to have "background information" for this project, but i don't know what to do! I did some stuff about the ratios of different ingredients in fertilizers, but I need more. I need stuff about the Big Red zinnia itself, like growing conditions and reactions to soil or being potted indoors or something like that. Could you guys maybe help and give some information or websites please?
Big Red Zinnias?
Zinnias add bold, vibrant color to gardens.
They come in a range of sizes and shapes, from upright types that make excellent cut flowers to more compact, multi-flowered border plants.
Flowers can be large or small, single or double, and come in just about any color but blue. They are the perfect annual to grow for beginners and experts alike.
Growing Zinnias
Zinnias are particularly easy to grow. They thrive in full sun, heat, and well-drained soil. If soil is poor, incorporate lots of organic matter such as compost ( Separate note attachedbelow).
Space smaller varieties 6 to 8 inches apart, taller ones 12 to 18 inches apart. Regularly dehead or remove old flowers to keep plants attractive and encourage more blooms. If taller varieties begin to flop, stake them with branches or metal hoops.
Growing from Seed
Zinnias are easy to grow from seed. Sow them directly in the garden as soon as the danger of frost has passed.
They grow quickly and may bloom in just six weeks. Choose a spot with rich, well-drained soil; loosen the soil; toss in seed; cover lightly with soil; and keep them watered. It’s as easy as that.
Problems
Powdery mildew is a primary zinnia troublemaker, particularly in humid climates. You can minimize mildew problems by not over watering plants, planting in well-drained soil, and watering plants at soil level to avoid wetting foliage. Also avoid overcrowding plantings which decreases air circulation around them.
To avoid problems, grow resistant cultivars such as Blue Point, Pinwheel, Profusion, and many others.
You can slow the spread of mildew on susceptible zinnias by spraying a protective coating of a baking soda solution. Mix 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in 2 quarts of water with a few drops of liquid soap.
Insect pests are rare, but you may find Japanese beetles, mites, and aphids. If pests are a problem, drop the beetles into soapy water and treat mites and aphids with insecticidal soap.
Types of Zinnias
The flowers come in single daisy-like flowers, doubles, cactus-flowered types with quilled rays, and anemone-flowered forms with broad rays around a cushioned center.
Flowers range in size from nickel to frisbee size and bloom in lavender, orange, pink, purple, red, rose, salmon, white, yellow, and even green. Here are just a few of the spectacular zinnias to try.
Zowie Hybrid is a new plant with intensely colored, long lasting flowers. Blooms are 3-5 inches wide with prominent center cones surrounded by bright rose, rich scarlet and yellow petals. They are weather-resistant and attract butterflies. Plants are 2-3' tall.
Envy has dramatic green flowers. Three-inch blooms look great in the garden or in a vase. Try them with white, deep blue, or pink flowers.
Cut and Come Again is a favorite double-flowered zinnia. The more you cut them, the more they bloom. Plants grow 2 to 3 feet tall.
Profusion Series plants have extraordinary disease resistance. These plants are virtually care-free—you don’t even have to dead-head them. Flowers are 2 to 3 inches across, and the plants spread up to 2 feet across and 12-18 inches tall. The Profusion series includes cherry, orange, white, and yellow.
Thumbelina is a compact, dome-shaped plant that starts to bloom when only 3 inches tall. These small 6-inch plants are excellent for pots, low beds and edging.
Cut Flowers
Cut flowers can last a week or more. Harvest the flowers when they are fresh but fully mature, ideally when pollen begins to form. Take a bucket filled with water out into the garden, submerging the cut stems immediately. Re-cut the stems before using them in arrangements. For longer vase life, be sure to use clean containers.
Garden Uses
In containers, small- to medium-sized zinnias make bright companions for other annuals such as petunias, variegated euonymus, licorice plant, and angelonia.
Small zinnias such as those in the ‘Profusion’ series make great edgers for other summer annuals or perennials.
Medium-height zinnias blend beautifully into bright bedding schemes, mixing with annuals such as cosmos and dahlias, or contrasting with spiky-flowered annuals such as salvia and larkspur.
Tall zinnias are ideal for cutting and can be planted in clusters between perennials in a sunny, mixed bed.
Vivid orange-, red-, and yellow-flowered Mexican zinnias are good companions for sunflowers and black-eyed Susans. Brick red 'Bonita Red' looks good with purple coneflowers.
Zinnias are often available in mixed colors. Mixes are perfect for creating bright, busy flower gardens or for cutting gardens.
Where you need specific colors to fit your planting scheme, look for plant packs or seed packets with only a single color of flowers.
Compost for Zinnias-
How to Make Compost Basics-
First, you will need a compost bin, a container or structure in which to build your compost pile. Compost bins can be homemade from chicken wire, wood, bricks, or plastic. You can also buy compost bins, often at low costs through municipal recycling programs. Be sure the bin that you make or buy has ventilation holes in the sides, so your pile gets the air it needs to decompose.
To start your pile, put alternate layers of browns (carbon-rich materials) and greens (nitrogen-rich materials) into your compost bin. Brown materials can be dead leaves, straw, sawdust, and wood chips. Green materials include grass clippings, fruit and vegetable scraps and clippings from your garden.
Maintaining a fifty-fifty ratio of browns to greens is ideal. If your compost pile is mostly browns, decomposition will be slow. A bin of oak leaves, for example, can take as much as three years to decompose completely. If your pile is mostly greens, anaerobic decomposition is likely to take place, and a strong, unpleasant smell will result. Bins filled entirely with fresh grass clipping usually stink!
IMPORTANT-
Do not put meat, fats, oils, dairy products or pet waste into your compost bins. They attract rats and other scavengers, and they can spread diseases. Don’t put garden clippings from diseased or mildewed plants in your compost bin. Send it to the landfill or burn it instead.
Toss your compost every week or so to increase air flow through the pile. This helps it decompose quickly and with little odor. Some gardeners do this by keeping two bins side by side and forking the half-made compost from one to the other regularly. If you find worms or saprophytic fungi -- a network of fine, white threads in a clump of compost – that is a sign that your compost pile is “working” nicely. Worms and beneficial fungi help plant material to decompose.
It’s also important to keep your compost pile moist. Dry material does not decompose well. If you have a long period without rain, water the compost bin when you water the garden.
Decomposing plant materials create heat. Expert composters often use special thermometers to monitor the temperature at the center of the compost pile. Home gardeners usually just stick their hands into the pile and see if it feels pleasantly warm. If the pile is cold, add more green material.
If you shred materials before adding them to the pile, they will break down faster. Most compost piles will turn to finished compost in three to six months. When your compost is black and earthy-smelling, with a soft, crumbly texture, it’s ready to use.
Using Compost
Composting has many benefits. It saves you time and money — no more bagging and hauling leaves and grass clippings to the city compost site or paying someone to pick up your yard waste. Adding compost to the soil increases its organic matter, which enhances the soil's ability to hold nutrients and water. Thus, using compost in your lawn and garden reduces dependence on other fertilizers. Compost also makes good mulch for protecting and establishing new plants. And best of all, it’s so easy to make compost!
I HOPE THIS HELPS ! GOOD LUCK.
