I have tried this numerous years, and have not yet had any seeds germinate.
How can Zinnia seeds be kept for the next season?
just put them in an envelope and set the away some where dark and cool. Just don't forget where you put them. I forget all the time, but I have a system this year. I usually let my zinnia reseed itself and I always get the zinnia I started with. I don't understand why you haven't had any luck. Zinnia are one of the easiest to start. When I collect the seed for Spring I just toss them on freshly turned soil and water daily until they germinate.
Good Luck

Reply:Zinnias will not breed true seeds; even if they germinate, you won't get the same plants that you got this year, since you probably planted hybrid seeds. You'll get much better results if you just buy new seed next year from a reputable dealer.
Reply:Let the flowers fully mature on the plant. When fully dry pull the heads off and collect the seeds at the bottom of the petals. Let the seeds dry well and then put into plastic bags, metal cans or envelopes. Store in an area that will not freeze but will be cold. I do this every year and have great success with them. Last year I planted seeds that I collected from 5 years ago and had good germination.
